About Us
Tom Sweeney and Annette Noel Sweeney
We are Tom and Annette Noel Sweeney. We travel, we write, and in-between we dream of traveling some more. Even though we already have more trips planned than we could take in our lifetimes, we keep on coming up with ideas for more trips.
We enjoy traveling, especially—one might say exclusively—independent travel. We have found that our best experiences come from interacting with people we meet on our trips. Annette is becoming more outgoing, but will never reach Tom’s level. As Annette has said, he will talk with anyone, whether they want to or not.
Tom’s travel philosophy is: The Less You Spend per Day, the More Days You Can Be Away. This of course can be taken to extremes, and even Tom will admit, if forced, that he sometimes goes overboard focusing on how little he spends per day.
Annette’s motto, on the other hand, is: Life is Short, Take the Scenic Route. She also travels frugally, but is never averse to upgrade her train tickets to first class, and and airplanes she’ll gladly pay the premium to treat her short legs to an extra-legroom seat, whereas Tom will more often than not fold his six-foot-four inch, wide-shouldered body into a coach seat designed for people half his size.
All of our writing, fiction and nonfiction, is a joint effort. Tom is the journal keeper of the partnership. He keeps notes, written and oral, which he sooner or later sort of fills out into daily journal pages. Annette is the editor. Her editing sometimes conflicts with Tom’s weird sense of humor, but we generally come to agreement. In case of disputes…well, there’s no point in saying the last word is Tom’s because Annette would simply edit that out. (You got that right! -Annette)
We hope you are enjoying the journals we have published. Shortly we will have some travel guides on cruising, how to travel with less stress, how to travel safely, tricks for using Airbnb more effectively (how to rent as well as host), packing light, and a complete guide to Spanish language immersion schools. In our spare time, we’re working on a series of novels.
